As every year the course of neuromuscular diseases carried out in the Hospital de Sant Pau, has brought together neurologists from all over Spain interested in neuromuscular pathology. Like the previous year, students from South America and Portugal attended the course.

During three intense days, classes of the large groups of neuromuscular pathology have been given; these classes are carried out by national experts in each subject. The workshops were held in the afternoon, deepening in more technical aspects and fundamental diagnostic tests in these pathologies.

The doctors Xavier Suárez-Calvet, Eduard Gallardo and Isabel Illa of the Sant Pau Neuromuscular Unit, signed the paper entitled “JAK inhibitor improves type I interferon induced damage: proof of concept in dermatomyositis” published in the prestigious Brain Journal. This international collaboration study establishes the bases for the treatment with Ruxolitinib of patients with dermatomyositis resistant to conventional therapies. The new registry of Mitochondrial Diseases is ready to use. This new registry is the result of the collaboration of Hospital 12 de Octubre, Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu, Hospital de Sant Pau and the Association of Patients with Mitochondrial Diseases (AEPMI). They have defined the variables of this registry to include adult and paediatric patients with the aim of characterizing clinically and genetically patients with these pathologies. This registry is part of the project: National Registry of Neuromuscular Diseases NMD-ES (CIBERER), with 30 hospitals from Spain participating. The design was made with REDCap, a secure web application that facilitates the electronic capture of data for research.

The seventh course to be held on May 16-17-18, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

As in previous editions, the number of places will be limited to 30 maximum. The selection of candidates will be made, first, based on years of experience (specialits have priority over residents) and second depending on the number of enrolled in each center (we will prioritize diversity of centers.) If there are very similar registration requests, we will value the future interest in the field and, if there is no possible way to carry out this evaluation, the remaining places will be raffled off.
