CIBERER

The Neuromuscular diseases unit is one of the groups affiliated to the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Raras CIBERER (Unidad U762. CIBERER CB06/05/0030). The main objective of this virtual centre is  to enhance collaboration and cooperation among biomedical and clinical research groups, focusing on genetic and acquired rare diseases. The Neuromuscular unit is part of the mitochondrial and neuromuscular medicine programme, consisting of 12 research groups specialized in the study of physiologic and functional aspects of the mitochondria in different tissues and in the research of neuromuscular diseases such as myopathies and muscular dystrophies, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and immune-mediated pathology.

The Unit has funding from CIBERER for personnel, in our case a laboratory technician and a post-doctoral researcher, who are fundamental for the development of several public and private research projects. Moreover the unit collaborates with other CIBERER groups (Dr. Vilchez, Dr Dalmau, and Dr Martí).

The Spanish Registry of Neuromuscular diseases is partially funded by CIBERER,  that has shown a high interest to ensure its continuation and the creation of new rare diseases registries.
