Josefina Araque graduated in Nursing at the “Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona”, is currently working as a laboratory technician in the neuromuscular diseases laboratory of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.

As a laboratory technician she is involved in several research projects related to muscular dystrophies and immune-mediated muscular diseases. In this second field she investigates antibodies recognizing new antigens. For this purpose she has set up  different primary cultures as a source of antigen including neuronal cultures from dorsal root ganglia, motor neurons, Schwann cell, hippocampal neurons from rat embryos and motor nerves from rat ocular muscles. She is also performing different immunological techniques to confirm the results obtained in primary cultures: immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, teasing of rat nerve, ELISAs, Western Blot and immunoprecipitation.
