PhD-Postdoctoral Researcher

Juan Castilla Silgado (Valverde del Camino, 1995) is biologist from the University of Seville (2018) and PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Oviedo (2024). His research career began at the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville, where he trained 6 months in the laboratory of Dr. Pablo Mir Rivera during his undergraduate internship, focusing on movement disorders.

In 2018, he started the Neuroscience Research master’s degree at the University of Oviedo and, one year later, he joined to the Clinical-Basic Neurology Research group at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria del Principado de Asturias, where he carried out his PhD thesis. The predoctoral research, funded by the Euronanomed III call (2020), was focused on the study of the molecular processes underlying protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system.

Since December 2024, he is part of the Neuromuscular Unit of the Institut de Recerca Sant Pau as a postdoctoral researcher, supported by the Center for Biomedical Research in Rare Diseases Network (CIBERER). His current work is focused on the study of autoimmune neuropathies, exploring the autoimmune mechanisms affecting the peripheral nerve and the node of Ranvier.
