Xavier Suarez-Calvet obtained his degree in Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and expanded its expertise in research through the Master in Immunology featuring the work of Master in innate immunity and neuromuscular diseases, led by Dra. Isabel Illa i Dra. Sílvia Vidal.

He joined the group of neuromuscular diseases in 2009 as PhD student. His Doctoral Thesis in Medicine led by Dr. Illa, focuses on the pathogenesis of inflammatory myopathies, funded by the FIS project “New antigenic reactivities and studies of innate immunity in autoimmune neuromuscular diseases.” Additionally, he has participated in other translational projects of the group.
